  Here is where you ask the questions of: What your goals are? Who your audience is? What distinguishes you from your competition?
  
• Keyword Analysis
  Once you have found the answered the questions, you will need to research keywords, that is, words and phrases, that search engine users will query the search engine. Here you must consider both the competition and the frequency of searches for a particular word or phrase; if there are too many competing sites it will be harder to rank higher and conversely if there are too few searches you will not have many visitors. When researching keywords it is important to be open to expanding or revising your initial strategy to find a niche: some service, product, or information that there is a greater demand for but which is not available in abundance.
  
• Content
  This is more than just populating your site with keywords. It is more important to develop content that will be relevant to the searches. This will not only improve your rankings but will also satisfy your visitors; there is no point in achieving a high ranking if after viewing your webpage they hit the back button to return to the listings. • Market
  Marketing your website can take the most work but probably is the most effective way to drive visitors to your website and achieve higher rankings. Some of the most basic (and often overlooked) ways this can be done is to make sure your url (your web address) is displayed on any printed literature that is distributed, whether it is a business card, brochure or letterhead. And whether or not you have just created your site or have redesigned it make sure you make sure your clients, associates or friends are aware of it.
  
  Other ways to market your site are through blogs, press releases and directories. Having external links to your website will definitely improve your rankings.
  
• Analyze
  You will need to analyze your rankings as well as the traffic to your website. Are you accomplishing what you set out to accomplish when stratagizing? If not, then your need to refine your stratagy, maybe consider using a PPC service (pay per click) such as Googles Adwords.
